Is Animism a religion?
Animism isn’t a religion in comparison to Judaism, Islam and Christianity, but those who follow animism or even study it bed to differ. It is acclaimed that it is a worldview that expresses its opinions about the universe, people and all living and non -living things. It is not a religion within itself but it’s a type of belief such as shamanism and polytheism, Animism is a strong religion, which requires faithful followers in their elements of belief. Animism isn’t an organized religion, meaning it doesn’t have an institution e.g. a church.
It doesn’t contain an articulated doctrine meaning they don’t follow a God. Animism doesn’t even have a sacred literature meaning they don’t follow the words of a bible e.g. the New Testament or the Hebrew Bible. This religion is very different to well known religions but it doesn’t make it any less significant. Other religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and both Catholic and Protestant Christianity have not destroyed the Animism religion. Animism has existed for over two thousands years and the religion has coexisted with the other religions.
